Staying Ahead of Seasonal Risks: Summer Safety Insights from EM Leadership

As temperatures rise and families head outdoors to enjoy summer activities,  EM’s Hilary Fairbrother, MD, MPH is helping the community stay safe and prepared.

Recently featured in UTHealth Houston’s Ask the Expert (external link) series, Dr. Fairbrother, Professor & Vice Chair of Faculty Development in our program and Assistant Dean of Pre-Clerkship Education at McGovern offered advice on preventing common summertime injuries and illnesses.

The article highlights that many summer ED visits are linked to preventable incidents, and that small, intentional precautions can make a big difference in staying safe.

Whether it’s keeping a close eye on children around a campfire, wearing a life jacket during water activities, or enjoying festive moments like fireworks on the 4th of July, Dr. Fairbrother encourages families to plan ahead so they can make the most of summer while staying safe and prepared.
