Residents Strengthen Resuscitation & Leadership Skills Through Simulation Training
Building Stronger Teams Through Experiential Learning
EM residents recently gathered at the McGovern’s Simulation Center for a hands-on SIM session designed to strengthen critical clinical skills, leadership, and teamwork in a realistic, high-acuity environment.
Residents from all 3 classes participated in simulated resuscitation scenarios that challenged them to rapidly assess critically ill patients, make time-sensitive clinical decisions, and effectively communicate as a multidisciplinary team.
Throughout each scenario, residents had the opportunity to rotate through leadership roles while applying Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (external link) principles in a controlled learning environment. In addition to practicing resuscitation skills, residents expanded their experience with Point-Of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), reinforcing its role in the rapid evaluation and management of emergency patients.
Following each simulation, faculty led structured debriefing sessions that encouraged reflection, clinical discussion, and constructive feedback. These conversations provided residents with the opportunity to review decision-making strategies, identify areas for improvement, and build confidence in managing complex emergency situations.
SIM-based education is a cornerstone of our residency curriculum. Through realistic clinical scenarios, residents build the knowledge, technical skills, communication, and leadership necessary to confidently care for patients during their most critical moments.
