Dr. Kevin Schulz Named Houston’s New EMS Physician Director
A New Chapter in Leadership
Leadership in emergency medicine extends far beyond the walls of the ED, and we’re proud to see one of our own recognized for that commitment.
Kevin Schulz, MD, FAEMS, FACEP, Associate Professor, EMS Fellowship Director, and Co-chief of the Section of Prehospital and Disaster Medicine, has been selected as the next EMS Physician Director for the City of Houston (external link).
The appointment represents an important milestone not only for Dr. Schulz, but also for the department, our trainees, and the many partnerships that support emergency medical care throughout the Houston region.

A Leader in Emergency Medical Services
Dr. Schulz has dedicated more than a decade to advancing prehospital medicine in Houston. Since completing his EMS fellowship at McGovern Medical School, he has served as Assistant Medical Director for the Houston Fire Department (HFD) (external link), while also leading the department’s EMS Fellowship and helping educate the next generation of EMS physicians.
His work extends well beyond day-to-day clinical practice. Dr. Schulz has played key leadership roles in planning medical operations for major events including Hurricane Harvey, NCAA Final Four, NFL events, and the FIFA World Cup. He also serves as a tactical physician with the Houston Police Department (HPD) SWAT (external link) team.
