Memorial Hermann Hospital – Texas Medical Center is a full-service hospital of approximately 465 beds that provides care for a broad-based cross section of patients, including approximately 10% charity or non-funded patients. There is a Women’s and Children’s Center which houses a 38-bed labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum unit and intensive and basic nursery services and other pediatric services. This hospital has an active Maternal-Fetal Transfer service (>300 per year) and is the tertiary helicopter transport center for the region. The daily census of high-risk antepartum patients is usually 20–26. The Center also has an active Antepartum Testing Unit that sees approximately 50–60 patients per week. In 2014, there were 4,790 deliveries at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital is operated by the Harris County Hospital District. All medical services are provided by faculty and fellows of The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. The hospital is a tertiary, full-service facility which maintains approximately 324 beds: 85 beds are devoted to OB/GYN (73 obstetric beds and 12 gynecology beds).The Birthing Center has 16 LDR rooms, a six-bed Maternal-Fetal Special Care Unit, and a Perinatal Testing Center which provides high-risk pregnancy evaluation. The hospital has a Level III nursery, with 20 intensive care beds. In 2014, there were 2,730 deliveries at LBJ.
