The Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynecology Fellowship
The Fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynecology (FAMIG) at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is a two-year program affiliated with renowned hospitals located within the world’s most acclaimed medical center in the nation’s fourth largest city. Here, research and clinical experiences are fully integrated. Ours fellows will interact with a large volume of simple and advanced surgical cases in benign gynecology, pediatric and reproductive surgery, as well as urogynecology. This will take place under close faculty supervision. The program trains fellows in hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, robotic, vaginal, single site and vaginal natural orifice surgery (vNOTES). Surgical experience takes place at the academic center and at Memorial Hermann Hospital system and affiliated county and community hospitals in Houston.
The Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynecology Fellowship, accredited by the Texas Medical Board since 2019, provides gynecologic surgeons with the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills to treat women with complex medical and surgical gynecologic pathology. The goal of the fellowship is to develop gynecologists into experts in complex gynecologic pathology and minimally invasive surgical techniques to be able to act as surgical consultants to general gynecologists and specialists from other disciplines, in their own practices and in the operating suite. Through rigorous academic and surgical training and research, the fellows are expected to collaborate in the advancement of the field of complex gynecology and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery as well as become academicians that will in turn train future generations of physicians.
