Residency Program
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program is a thriving and vigorous program. We are a fully ACGME accredited 4-year training program with 12 residents at each level (for a total of 48 residents) and are affiliated with the McGovern Medical School. Our main teaching hospitals are Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center (MHH TMC) and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (LBJ). In addition to hospital training, our residency program has a busy resident practice in the UTPhysicians ObGyn Continuity Clinic located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center and in the Outpatient Center (OC) clinic at LBJ.
Our residency program is one of the few in the country that provides the unique combination of optimal obstetric and gynecologic experience with diverse patient populations at university, community and county hospitals. Active faculty involvement fosters an energetic invigorating academic environment. Our department is recognized nationally as a leader in patient care, education, and research. We believe that our residency program is an excellent place to train for many reasons:
- First and foremost, our current residents are top notch! They are dedicated physicians with unbridled enthusiasm and a penchant for learning.
- Secondly, our faculty shares a passion for teaching and excellence in patient care. The faculty aims to always be available to foster evidence-based management of patients and encourage independent thinking. We love our jobs!
- Third, residents get a broad base of experience in general and complex obstetrics, operative gynecology (including vaginal, laparoscopic, robotic surgery and V-Notes), ambulatory care and subspecialty services in several Houston hospitals. All of our residents have the opportunity to graduate with Robotic certification.
- Lastly, our residents get an amazing exposure to all of the subspecialties and are well supported if they desire to pursue a fellowship.
At the completion of training, residents are actively recruited regionally and nationally to enter private practice, join academic departments, or pursue fellowship positions in the top programs around the country. Our residency program is committed to the personal and professional growth of everyone who is training together. Residency training at UTHealth Houston fosters a deep sense of engagement, meaning and purpose and builds life-long close relationships with peers in many specialties.
