The Division of Medical Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is truly one of a kind. Our team comprises a myriad of professionals — from geneticists to genetic counselors, researchers and dieticians — to ensure a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to care for every patient.

While housed in the Department of Pediatrics, the Medical Genetics Division sees patients of all ages and uses this strategic placement for our experts to connect with patients as early as possible then continue care as long as necessary. UTHealth Houston has a close partnership with and proximity to both Memorial Hermann Hospital and Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, giving the team access to state-of-the-art resources for excellence in management and surveillance of various genetic conditions, from common to ultra rare. Additionally, this team cares for the underserved populations at Harris County’s Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and Shriners Children’s Texas, located in Galveston, Texas.

UTHealth Houston is a founding NORD Center of Excellence, and Medical Genetics Division Director Hope Northrup, MD, pioneered the efforts to secure this prestigious designation. Among many honors, Dr. Northrup was recently recognized by the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Alliance for her important contributions to research on this condition. Dr. Northrup is Director and lead geneticist at the TSC Center of Excellence Clinic.
