Cardiothoracic

Welcome to the Cardiothoracic Imaging Section
McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston

The Cardiothoracic Imaging Section at McGovern Medical School provides a comprehensive range of standard and advanced noninvasive cardiothoracic imaging studies. Our work is closely aligned with the mission of UTHealth Houston to promote clinical excellence, education, and scholarly advancement.

Our team consists of six fellowship-trained cardiothoracic radiologists who collaborate within a robust multidisciplinary framework. We work closely with a variety of departments, including cardiology, thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, pulmonology, oncology, and internal medicine. To ensure integrated and patient-centered care, we actively participate in several regular conferences, such as multidisciplinary tumor boards, radiology-pathology correlation meetings, and interstitial lung disease case discussions.

The section provides clinical services across multiple key institutions, including Lyndon B. Johnson County Hospital, The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, and Memorial Hermann Hospital. Memorial Hermann serves as a leading Level I trauma center and a major regional referral hub for cardiovascular surgery, lung transplantation, and interstitial lung disease. In addition, our section plays a central role in coordinating lung cancer screening programs at both Lyndon B. Johnson County Hospital and Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Education and research are integral to our mission. We are proud to offer a cardiothoracic imaging fellowship with two positions available annually, and we are especially honored that three of our current faculty members completed their fellowship training within our own section. Our faculty are actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows at UTHealth Houston and maintain a strong academic presence through ongoing research, national and international presentations, and invited lectures.

Our faculty are recognized for their dedication to academic excellence and strong participation in the radiology residency program, with numerous honors including multiple Dean’s Teaching Excellence Awards, Excellence in Teaching Awards at UTHealth Houston, RSNA Honored Educator recognition, and RSNA Editor’s Recognition in the International Author Mentoring Program. We remain committed to advancing clinical care, fostering the next generation of radiologists, and contributing meaningful research in cardiothoracic imaging.
