Fellow Spotlight
Class 2024-2025
Syman Lau, DO
What are you most excited about this year?
I’m most excited to dive into hospice and palliative medicine, learning alongside my co-fellows and attending physicians as I continue working towards my goal of becoming a certified hospice and palliative medicine physician.
Why did you choose Hospice and Palliative Medicine as a subspecialty?
During my family medicine residency, I had the privilege of building meaningful relationships with patients and their families. This experience allowed for a deep connection with the community and collaboration with various medical specialties. It was this bond with patients, families, and the community that inspired me to pursue a career in hospice and palliative medicine. I chose this subspecialty to develop the skills and expertise necessary to provide high-quality care focused on improving patients’ quality of life while advocating for their goals of care.
What is the most fun thing you want people to know about you?
I enjoy trying new foods and am open to trying almost anything (I highly recommend jellyfish salad, but I am still contemplating fermented camel milk).
