How to Apply

The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program at UTHealth uses the ERAS system. Send materials directly to us. UTHealth does not accept H1B visas. J1 visas are permitted.

Applicants to the program should have completed 3 years of an ACGME-accredited residency by their fellowship start date. The specialties that may subspecialize in hospice and palliative medicine include:

  • Family Medicine
  • Internal Medicine

Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)

We accept applications for our geriatric medicine fellowship positions through Electronic Residency Application Service only.
ERAS & NRMP Information (McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Program—ACGME ID: 1514831162):

The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program is participating in the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). For details on how to apply, please visit: https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-residency/applying-residencies-eras/ or call the ERAS Help Desk, 202-828-0413. Documents required with ERAS application include a personal statement describing goals and objectives, current curriculum vitae, 3 letters of recommendation, current photo, list of any research experience or any publications, list of any particular area of research, and United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) scores.

International Medical Graduates (IMGs)

For international medical graduates, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth has adopted a policy of accepting into the graduate medical education residency program only those who are under J-1 visas sponsored by the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Applicants selected to interview will need to present these documents to our Graduate Medical Education Office at time of interview.

  2. 3 Letters of Reference (from your current colleagues if you are already in practice, and at least one letter from your residency program director)
  3. Personal Statement
  4. Medical School Diploma (translated if needed)
  5. Medical School Transcript (translated if needed)
  6. USMLE Step Scores (Steps 1 & 2 required, 3 can be scheduled/planned; Can interview with photocopies, but will need original copy sent from USMLE before being offered a position)
  7. ECFMG Certificate (if applicable)

  10. Recent Professional Photo
