The program is a one-year clinical fellowship and has four positions per year.

Trainees acquire a broad range of knowledge and experience in various settings to prepare them for practicing hospice and palliative medicine in academic, inpatient, or outpatient careers.

The mission of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is to prepare each fellow for a successful career as a Palliative physician. We strive to provide an excellent foundation for each fellow so that no matter the chosen career path, he or she will have the ability to excel. Training encompasses the development of high-level clinical skills and a strong fund of knowledge of the pathophysiology, manifestations, and treatment principles of diseases generally seen by Palliative physicians.

“Often when a physician cannot imagine what else to do for someone who is feeling helpless and hopeless – for whom life has no value – I find that love is the answer.”
