Announcement for Director of Airway Management
Congratulations to Dr. Yandong Jiang who has been appointed Director of Airway Management effective May 16th, 2022. In this role, Dr. Jiang will lead the development of a formalized airway management curriculum for our residents and other trainees; foster faculty interest, scholarship, and research in airway management; and ensure that our faculty and clinical providers have opportunities for continued airway management education and skill preservation. Dr. Jiang has extensive experience and multiple publications in the field of airway management and serves as the airway management section editor for Anesthesiology.
Dr. Jiang will be assisted by Dr. Paul Potnuru, who has been appointed Education Director for Airway Management. Dr. Potnuru has several publications in the field of airway management, including chapters and reviews on awake intubation and the failed airway. Dr. Potnuru is one of the departments most esteemed educators, having recently won a record number of teaching awards in a single year including Outstanding Clinical Instructor, Outstanding Didactic Instructor, Best Attending in Neuroanesthesia, and Best Attending in Pre-Anesthesia Clinic.
With her years of experience and vast expertise in airway management, particularly in the obstetric patient, Dr. Maya Suresh will serve as a Consultant to Drs. Jiang and Potnuru as they develop the department’s educational and scholarly mission in airway management. While at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Suresh was instrumental in developing a formal educational curriculum in airway management and ensured availability of advanced airway resources throughout the clinical practice, and her input will be invaluable as we tackle these initiatives in our own department. Dr. Suresh is a Past President of the Society for Airway Management.
Thank you to our Director of ENT Anesthesia, Dr. Cattano, for his input in the development of this role. He will be working closely with this team and will be one of our core airway management faculty.
