Medical Students

The Department of Anesthesiology at McGovern Medical School is excited to offer clinical rotations for both third-year and fourth-year medical students. In addition to the education of our residents, the education and mentoring of medical students is part of our academic mission.

Our third-year rotation is reserved for medical students at McGovern Medical School. This rotation is a three-week elective designed to expose students to general anesthesiology during the second half of clinical rotations. This rotation is primarily spent in the general operating rooms of Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center.

Our fourth-year rotation is open to medical students at McGovern Medical School and for visiting students interested in anesthesiology. This rotation builds on the third-year rotation and allows for more hands-on learning. This rotation is supplemented with the ability to attend our junior and senior lecture series as well as oral board preparation and Grand Rounds. Students on this rotation will spend half of their rotation in the main operating rooms of Memorial Hermann–TMC or Harris Health System’s Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital working with our current faculty, fellows, and residents. The remainder of the rotation will be spent on subspecialty rotations that may include cardiac, pediatrics, obstetrics, regional, acute pain management, or critical care. We allow students to give a preference to which subspecialty they would like to experience so that they may shape their rotation for maximum benefit.
