A Collaborative Approach to Patient-centered Care
The Cardiac Anesthesia Division provides comprehensive, patient-centered, quality treatment for patients undergoing care through the Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Institute–Texas Medical Center. Our highly skilled anesthesiologists are trained in the specialty of cardiac anesthesiology and echocardiography. We care for patients presenting for cardiac revascularization, valve surgery, open or endovascular complex major aortic repair, mechanical circulatory support and transplants, structural heart procedures, electrophysiology studies and therapies, and thoracic and minor vascular surgeries. By working closely in a multidisciplinary fashion with our cardiac, vascular and thoracic surgeons, with our cardiologists, intensive care physicians, hematologists, perfusionists and nursing staff, we are able to focus and provide exceptional patient care, educate and be leaders in our field.
We set high standards and expectations for our residents and fellows. Through complex cases, hands-on one to one clinical training and group didactics, fellows and residents develop skills centered on innovative patient care. We currently have four ACGME certified cardiovascular anesthesia fellowship positions. Our fellows are trained and well prepared for the future challenges in the field of cardiovascular anesthesiology.
As an academic institution, we also aim to advance the field of cardiovascular anesthesiology by performing cutting-edge clinical research. Our research has focused on mechanism and prevention of perioperative organ injury, blood conservation in major aortic surgery, and cardiac enhanced recovery. Our experts lecture at national and international conferences, and publish frequently in major journals.
