Trauma Anesthesiology

Memorial Hermann Red Duke Trauma Institute is one of the busiest Level I trauma centers in the United States. We admit and treat more than 14,000 adult and pediatric patients each year. Home to one of the busiest hospital heliports in the world, Memorial Hermann Life Flight performs over 3,000 missions each year with 6 helicopters in addition to fixed-wing long distance capability. Our hospital is a verified regional burn center, spinal cord injury center, as well as a pediatric Level I trauma center.

As a department, we treat and care for a wide array of critically ill and injured patients which includes neurotrauma, orthopedic trauma, burn trauma, and pediatric trauma.

Our newly developed Trauma Anesthesiology Fellowship is a one-year clinical fellowship that prepares the general anesthesiologist to become an expert in the initial evaluation, resuscitation, and perioperative management of polytrauma patients. In addition, our residents will have the opportunity to choose a senior trauma anesthesiology elective for those considering a trauma fellowship. Our trauma anesthesiology staff are dedicated to providing each medical student, resident, and fellow both didactic and clinical bedside instruction in the care of the injured patient. Clinical anesthesia locations include our emergency center trauma bays, dedicated trauma operating rooms, post-anesthesia care unit, and Shock Trauma Intensive Care Unit.
