This award receives strong supports from Drs. Holger Eltzschig and Cynthia Ju at the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, as well as Dr. Guangwei Du at the Department of Integrative Biology & Pharmacology, and Dr. Mikhail Kolonin at the The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine, UT Health.
The title of his grant is “Lipocalin-2, a mitokine that mediates white to brown fat crosstalk”.
This proposal aims to investigate the role of a mitokine, lipocalin-2, in controlling the white to brown fat crosstalk, as well as its contribution to whitening of brown adipose tissue. Successful completion of proposed studies will enhance our understanding of the pathogenesis of brown fat dysfunction and obesity and will facilitate discovering novel therapeutics against obesity and its associated comorbidities.
