Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology – Dr. Alparlan Turan Research Group

We are pleased to introduce Dr. Alparslan Turan and his research group to the department.

Dr. Alparslan TuranAlparslan Turan, MD

Dr. Turan joined the department on August 1st as a Professor to support our general anesthesiology group. He will also serve as Vice Chair for Outcomes Research for the department, Director of the new Center for Outcomes Research, and Assistant Vice President for Translational Outcomes Research for McGovern Medical School. Dr. Turan completed his MD at Gazi University in Ankara, Turkey and his residency at Trakya University in Edirne, Turkey. He comes to us with 16 years of experience at the Cleveland Clinic where he served as Program Director for the Clinical Research Fellowship, Vice Chair to the Department of Outcomes Research and General Anesthesia, and the Associate Director of Outcome Research Consortium.  Dr. Turan’s grants total more than $15 million, and he has published more than 350 research papers. His main interests are perioperative outcomes, postoperative pain, regional anesthesia, and persistent surgical pain. He serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia, the highest-impact US anesthesiology journal. He has also received multiple awards for his clinical research from various societies.

 

Dr. Mohammad KhudiratMohammad Khudirat, MD

Dr. Khudirat joined the department on August 1st as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support Dr. Alparslan Turan’s research lab.  He received his MD from the University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine in Amman, Jordan.  Dr. Khudirat previously worked with Dr. Turan as a Research Fellow for the Department of Anesthesia Outcomes Research at the Cleveland Clinic Cleveland, OH.

 

 

 

Dr. Mert ToreMert Tore, MD

Dr. Tore joined the department on August 12th as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support Dr. Alparslan Turan’s research lab.  He received his MD from the Medipol University in Istanbul, Turkey.  Dr. Tore previously worked with as a Clinical Research Fellow for the Critical Care Department at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC.
