Philipp Lirk, MD, PhD
Dr. Lirk joined the department on May 5th as a Professor to support our general OR, acute pain service, and research divisions.
He joins us as the new Director of MHH Acute Pain Services.  As Director of the Acute Pain Service at Memorial Hermann Hospital, Dr. Lirk will ensure the growth and optimization of the Acute Pain Management Service (APMS) at MHH. He will be instrumental in maintaining the highest quality and standard of care for our patients. Many thanks to Dr. Sana Khan for a fantastic job fulfilling this role on an interim basis over the last several months.
Additionally, Dr. Lirk has joined the Center for Outcomes Research within the Institute for Perioperative Medicine with Dr. Alparslan Turan.

Dr. Lirk completed his MD at Leopold Franzens University in Innsbruck, Austria in 2002, his M.Sc. from the University of Wales College of Medicine in the United Kingdom in 2005, his Advanced Degree (Privatdozent) from Innsbruck Medical University, Austria in 2010, and his PhD at the University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands in 2014.  He completed his residency at University Hospital in Innsbruck, Austria, and subsequently served in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Academic Medical Center (AMC) of the University of Amsterdam. In 2017, he joined the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he served as Associate Professor.
