Center Director for Perioperative Genomic Research Announcement
UTHealth Houston’s Institute of Perioperative Medicine (IPM) has launched the Center for Perioperative Genomic Research and appointed Zhongming Zhao, PhD, as its inaugural director. The center will apply genomics, multi-omics, and advanced analytics to understand perioperative risk, organ injury, and recovery, translating data-driven insights into clinical tools that improve surgical outcomes. Dr. Zhao, a nationally recognized genomics leader, also serves as UTHealth Houston’s Vice President for the Office of Cancer Genomic Medicine and Director of the Cancer Genomics Core. Under his leadership, the center will initiate collaborative studies across IPM, stand up rapid‑analysis pipelines, and host seminars that spotlight team science and trainee research.
