We recognize that virtual interviews are challenging and we’d like to help share some of the strengths of our program in Pre-Interview Socials and Second Look Events where you can meet some of our Faculty & Residents, and learn about what our program has to offer and ask questions.

What to Expect

Tour of Memorial Hermann Hospital – TMC & Life Flight Visit

Experience our home base, Memorial Hermann Hospital – TMC, a nationally recognized Level 1 Trauma Center and one of the busiest emergency departments in the country.

This historic institution has long been a cornerstone of medical care and education in Houston and offers unmatched training in high-acuity emergency medicine. During your visit, you’ll tour key areas including trauma bays, resuscitation rooms, and state-of-the-art simulation centers.

You’ll also get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at MHH Life Flight, meet the crew, and even sit inside the helicopter – showcasing the unique, hands-on training opportunities our program offers.

Please note: students will only visit Memorial Hermann on this day, as LBJ is offsite. However, plenty of resources about LBJ are available online, and we’re happy to help facilitate a separate tour of LBJ with one of our residents if desired.

Where the Foundations of Your Training Are Built

This is where much of the behind-the-scenes work of residency happens. At our campus, residents sharpen their clinical thinking, prepare for high-acuity shifts, and build the foundation that translates directly to success in the emergency department.

From weekly conferences and resident didactics to academic sessions, workshops, and special events, this space is where learning is reinforced, questions are explored, and real-world cases are broken down before you ever step back into the hospital. It’s a collaborative environment designed to support your growth – not just as a clinician, but as a leader, educator, and teammate.

Lunch on Us

Great Food, Great Conversation

After the tours, we’ll take a break and treat you to lunch – our way of saying thank you for spending the day with us. We typically bring in some of Houston’s favorite local spots, including OHMYGOGI, known for its bold flavors and crowd-pleasing fusion dishes.

Lunch is more than just a meal, it’s a chance to relax, connect with current residents, and ask candid questions in a casual, low-pressure setting. Whether you’re curious about day-to-day life in the ED, call schedules, or living in Houston, this is a great opportunity to hear directly from the people living the experience.

Post-Event Social

Get to Know Our People Beyond the Hospital

The day doesn’t end after lunch! In the evening, some of our residents and faculty invite Second Look attendees out for drinks at one of our favorite local spots. This is where you can get to know our team outside of the hospital, ask the really important questions, and experience the camaraderie that makes our program unique.

This is where our culture really comes through. You’ll have the chance to:

• Connect with residents and faculty outside of work
• Ask the questions you might not ask in an interview
• Experience the camaraderie, support, and sense of community that defines our program

It’s the perfect way to wrap up the day and get a true feel for the people who make our program what it is.
