R25 Research Education Program
Select Residents interested in becoming a Clinician-Scientist can participate in the R25 Research Track. Residents can spend 6-8 months of protected research time in PGY-3/PGY-4 years under a mentor at UTHealth. Residents also receive 1-2 years of research support after residency or clinical fellowship training. The goal of the R25 is to conduct innovative basic or translational research into mechanisms, diagnosis and treatments of neurological illness, with the long-term goal of creating sustainable independent research programs.
Each R25 fellow will have mandatory and optional activities as detailed below. The core coursework they will engage in is the Clinical Research Curriculum (CRC). This 2-year series of evening courses has been specifically designed to promote clinical and translational research expertise. Interested residents can use these courses to contribute to a Masters in Clinical Investigation.
