Educational Philosophy

My teaching philosophy has evolved to respond to my unique roles and challenges as a clinician-educator. The primary challenges and goals that have shaped my teaching philosophy include maximizing time, improving learner engagement and equity of teaching. One of my goals became how to ensure each learner was taught similar concepts, cases and application skills despite a busy rotation or not seeing a rare diagnosis during the short 2 week rotation.

My current teaching strategy now includes streamlined curriculum with accompanying videos and reading to motivate learners. The written curriculum is also designed to include a breadth of diagnoses, even if the resident did not happen to encounter the diagnosis during the short rotation

As a neurologist, I enjoy the complexity,  patient-physician relationships and  booming knowledge in the field. Teaching is a natural accompaniment to neurology and enhances the enjoyment of practicing in my chosen field.
