When contacting a faculty member to inquire about research opportunities, students should briefly introduce themselves, explain their interests in the work or topic, and request a meeting.

I am an MS1 searching for a research project for the summer term.  I was reading your paper on XXXX and am very interested in this type of project.  Would it be possible for you to meet with me to discuss potential research opportunities in your area/laboratory/projects?  I have attached my CV for your review.
