My educational efforts have been focused on issues related to the medical school curriculum, medical student teaching and learning, educational scholarship, and faculty educator development.

My aims in all activities is:

– To assist learners in advancing their medical knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors
– To reflect on outcomes with the aim to improve,
– To maintain currency in educational theory and practice
– To provide exemplary educational leadership

  • Past and Current Educational Activities:
  • Alternate Pathway Program: To assist medical students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Problem Based Learning (PBL): Championed introduction into the medical school curriculum
  • Summer Research Program and Scholarly Concentration Program (11 concentrations): Director.
  • NIDDK Short-term Research Training Grant (T-35): Principal Investigator/Co-Investigator.
  • Vision Committee: Chairman. Promoted a competency-based curriculum
  • Academy of Master Educators: Founding Chairman.
  • “TIME”, UT System initiative: Director.
  • American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), Division for Pharmacology Education (DPE): Founding Chairman.
  • International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE): Charter member, Board of Directors.
