Students may conduct research with faculty other than those associated with Summer Research and Scholarly Concentration Programs, both within McGovern Medical School (MMS) and at other institutions. If you are involved in faculty-mentored independent research, please let us know.
Note: MS1 students performing independent research SHOULD also apply to the Summer Research Program (SRP) MS1 online application at https://med.uth.edu/oep/msro/msro-programs/srp/ A letter will go into your blue book upon graduation (DUE February 1 of each year)

The McGovern Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a free, six week academic and summer enrichment program funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for college freshman and sophomores interested in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or public health. Each year the UTHealth Houston Neuroscience Research Center (NRC) recognizes students for excellence in neuroscience research and outreach. Two medical student awards ($500 each) are given to outstanding fourth‐year medical students for excellence in neuroscience research. A graduate student award ($500) is given to a student who has exhibited an exceptional interest and effort in brain awareness and neuroscience outreach activities.
