Educational Philosophy

Education has been a bridge, which has connected multiple facets of my life. I have been fortunate to have had the best teachers who have inculcated the message that education is a way of life. Knowledge imparted by my teachers has reformed and directed my thought process throughout my life.

Teaching is a dynamic process, but is facing unique challenges in the current environment. Education is an ecosystem flush with instant availability of information; this poses new dimensions to the relevance of the educator. I believe that the relevance of the educator has significantly increased in this modern age, instead of the contrary. The educator acts as the conduit and director of knowledge.

Personalizing education with a human touch is very important to me for imparting information. I facilitate this by increasing teacher learner interaction on a personal basis. Increasing my availability to students is key in this process. I routinely meet with students out of regular hours and during weekends. I also believe in being available to all my residents and fellows with anytime access to my cell phone. This fits well with my thought process of education being a way of life.

Evaluation is an integral part of the education process. I firmly believe that this is a continuous process and there should be ample opportunity for corrective measures.

Staying up-to-date with technology is important to me to connect to the current generation. This has encouraged me to use all available resources to facilitate the education process. I have used various software and available hardware to connect to the learners. Although there is a learning curve, I find the experience gratifying. This interaction enriches my education and focuses my delivery for the “new” digital student.

I have great faith that education is a two way process. I learn from all my students, and more so over the years. My experience of living, working and learning in multiple countries had reinforced this concept. This has enriched my awareness about the cultural and social differences in various students and helped me be a bridge in their learning process. This action of being a bridge is a privilege and an honor, which I cherish.
