The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) for Underrepresented Minority Medical Student Research Program

Underrepresented Minority Medical Student Research Program

At LLS, we strongly believe that a diverse and highly trained scientific workforce is crucial to achieving our mission of curing all blood cancers. This year we successfully launched a one-year program (which includes a $75K stipend) to support blood cancer research training for underrepresented minority medical students at best-in-class research centers throughout the US. The program is available for students after their 2nd,3rd or 4th year of medical school. This program will allow students to experience cutting-edge research, increase their knowledge of blood cancer, and broaden their career opportunities. Our ultimate goal is to diversify the pool of physician-scientists to drive future advances in blood cancer and serve the health needs of historically underserved blood cancer patients.

The program is open for applications for the 2024-2025 academic year with an application deadline of December 15th 2023. The website link is HERE for further detailed information about the program.

The link to our program blog is HERE featuring our first awardee Jennifer Lewis, a Puerto Rican medical student at California University of Science and Medicine who is doing a year of blood cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC.

Warm Regards,
~Nina
