Pharmacy

In 1992 Congress created the 340B Drug Pricing Program (340B Program) as part of the Public Health Service Act to lower drug costs. Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs) such as Gulf States were designated as covered entities to purchase pharmaceutical products at a discounted rate. Through this program, HTCs can establish a pharmacy and purchase and sell clotting factor and other drugs used by patients to treat their bleeding disorders. In doing so, HTCs stretch scarce federal resources and generate program income.  Our 340B Pharmacy, Gulf States Pharmacy is located in the same building as our clinics and through the integrated care model, the pharmacy staff works with our clinical team to ensure that the patient’s medication needs are met.  The program income generated by the sale of the products must be used for patient health, education, and supportive services necessary to provide comprehensive care to patients served by the HTCs.

In addition to supporting some staff time and benefits, The Gulf States Pharmacy revenues directly supports the following services:

• Patient and family community education (self-infusion classes, mental health individual and support sessions, family camp)
• Camp Ailihpomeh Summer Camp
• Medical, nursing, social work  and physical therapy services
• Outreach clinics
• Genetic testing and dental care treatment evaluations

As a part of our designation as federally funded covered entity, we ensure that we offer patient choice to you by having you complete our “Patient Choice Policy” during your clinic visit. We know many of you still have a choice as to where you can order your factor medication and appreciate that you consider our HTC 340B Pharmacy as an option.
