RAD-AID

UTHealth RAD-AID Chapter

The UTHealth RAD-AID chapter is led by Latifa Sanhaji, M.D. Our chapter fosters interprofessional collaboration and includes faculty members, residents, medical students, technicians, nurses, and IT professionals. Our objective is to promote and increase the availability of imaging techniques, procedures, and radiology education in resource-limited settings.

Each year, Dr. Sanhaji organizes a trip to Morocco to enable a valuable exchange of academic and technical knowledge and to share our experience in medical education through lectures, workshops, hands-on training, and much more.

About the Organization

RAD-AID International is a nonprofit public-service organization that partners with hospitals, universities, professional societies, and communities to improve access to safe and effective medical imaging in medically underserved settings. Its model combines radiology-readiness assessment, education and mentorship, workflow and technology improvement, quality and safety, and locally led implementation.

Mission

To improve and optimize access to medical imaging and radiology in low resource regions of the world, increasing radiology’s contribution to global public health initiatives and patient care.

Program Approach

Assess locally. Educate collaboratively. Build for continuity.

  • Assess – Needs, systems, and readiness
  • Educate – Residents, faculty, and teams
  • Strengthen – Workflow, safety, and practical skills
  • Sustain – Mentorship and local partnership

Under Dr. Sanhaji’s direction, the program has developed from readiness assessment into continuous resident education, practical skills training, professional exchange, systems improvement, outreach, and national collaboration. The education cycles are organized by Dr. Sanhaji and delivered primarily by radiology faculty from McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, with Moroccan partners.
