The Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Sin Yeong An as the new Fellowship Program Director of the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Fellowship Program. Her estimated official start date is the new academic year of 2027.
Dr. Sin Yeong An is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and a cardiovascular anesthesiologist at Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center. She earned her B.A. in Biological Sciences from Cornell University and her M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her anesthesiology residency at UC Davis, where she served as Chief Resident, followed by fellowship training in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at the Texas Heart Institute/Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. Since beginning her faculty role at UTHealth, her clinical and academic interests have included perioperative transesophageal echocardiography, structural heart disease, mechanical circulatory support, and cardiovascular anesthesia education. She also directs the Anesthesia Resident TEE Rotation, overseeing the echocardiography curriculum for senior anesthesiology residents.
Dr. An has been closely involved with the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship for the past several years, including three years as Associate Program Director. During that time, she has contributed to fellow education, curriculum development, mentorship, recruitment, and the continued growth of the program. As Program Director, she hopes to further strengthen the fellowship’s clinical and educational experience while expanding opportunities for mentorship, research, and professional development. She looks forward to building on the program’s strong foundation and helping shape its next phase.
In this role, Dr. An will lead the fellowship’s curriculum, didactics, recruitment, and fellow mentorship, while supporting scholarly activity and alignment with GME and ACGME standards. She will work closely with the Division Chief of Cardiovascular Anesthesia and the Vice Chair for Education.
We would also like to thank Dr. Warren Choi for his four years of service as Program Director. Under his leadership, the program recruited excellent cardiovascular anesthesia fellows and expanded from four to six positions. We are grateful to Dr. Choi for guiding the transition and helping Dr. An acclimate to the fellowship ahead of her official start in the 2027 academic year.
Please join us in warmly congratulating Dr. An on this well-deserved appointment and in thanking Dr. Choi for his leadership. We are enthusiastic about the future under Dr. An’s leadership and excited to support her vision for the fellowship.
