About Us
The McGovern Medical School Office of Educational Programs (OEP) provides administrative oversight and management for all aspects of undergraduate medical education (UME) for the Doctor of Medicine program. To help support this mission, OEP works in collaboration with McGovern’s Learning Resource Center (LRC), the Surgical and Clinical Skills Center (SCSC), the Standardized Patient (SP) program, and the Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME). The office actively recruits faculty to be directly involved in the medical student curriculum and associated programs to enhance the student learning experience.
In addition to supporting the UME curriculum, OEP provides workshops for all levels of learners on teaching and feedback skills, as well as a wide array of educator development opportunities including monthly workshops and MedEd Journal Clubs, the Health Educators Fellowship Program (HEFP), the Physician Educator Certificate Program (PECP), and the Master of Education (MEd) program in partnership with the University of Houston College of Education. Additionally, educational specialists are available to work with departments and programs to create educator development opportunities to fit specific departmental/program needs.
The Office of Educational Programs also provides expertise and support in the use of educational technology, both within the undergraduate medical education curriculum as well as within McGovern Medical School’s many residency and fellowship programs. One-on-one consultations are available to assist in the creation of online content and engaging in person or online presentations using active learning strategies.
