Mini-Scholarship Application
2023-2024

The purpose of the Stinson Fund is to provide travel assistance to students who wish to provide international medical care, provide scholarships for students interested in careers in global health, and to support medical students with an interest in public health informatics and training.

The Stinson Fund will provide “mini-scholarships” up to $1,000 per student for qualifying activities related to global health and public health/informatics.

Qualifying activities may include the following:

  1. Travel costs associated with medical student’s activities in the Global Health, international health care, public health, and informatics
  2. Costs associated with conference attendance where a student is presenting research related to their activities in Global Health, international health care, public health, and informatics.

Applications must include the following:

  1. Description of how the proposed activity will benefit the student and their medical training in global health or public health/informatics.
  2. A specific monetary request (up to $1,000) including a description/budget of how the funds will be used
  3. Student information including name, year in medical school, year in concentration, concentration mentor
  4. Letter of endorsement from student’s mentor regarding the student’s participation in proposed activity (attached to application)

Applications should be submitted in a Word document format.

Application Process and timeline:

Applications will be accepted and reviewed twice a year, once during the Spring and once during the Fall.

Number of awards granted per year:

At least four awards of up to $1,000 (or two awards of up to $2,000) will be granted this year.  Accordingly, approximately $4,000 will be spent each year.
Additional awards up to $500 may be granted based on availability of funds and applications received.

No retroactive expenses will be supported.  Applications should be submitted via email to Rebecca Mathews ([email protected]).

Final Summary: Awardees will be required to submit a one-page summary of their activities and a thank you note to the beneficiary’s family.
