How do I become Involved with Orthopedic Research? Visit the UTHealth Orthopedic Research Webpage and fill out the Medical Student Project Registration form (https://redcap.uth.tmc.edu/surveys/?s=FMM944NDLMPYHWTA) -Once the form is filled out, Layla Haidar will contact you to discuss what study would be a good fit for you to become involved with. *It is a requirement to fill out this application to become involved with orthopedic research. This process will streamline the process for medical student involvement and ensure aligned interests on paired projects. *Please refrain from emailing surgeons and follow the above process to get involved with orthopedic research. You will be able to make note in the research project registration form if there is a specific faculty member/lab you are interested in working with.

i.Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays 8am-5pm (time distributed between all students)
d.Tasks/responsibilities
i.Enroll patients into a prospective database in clinic
ii.Contribute to writing abstracts/manuscripts and using data as desired
a.PI: Dr. Yvette Ho; Dr. Ernest Conrad
b.1-2 students
c.1-year commitment
i.Monday (for a couple hours), Wednesdays 8am-5pm, Fridays 8:30-12pm (time distributed between all students)
d.Tasks/responsibilities
i.Obtaining functional outcome info on patients during clinic
ii.Enter postop patients into Tumor Registry database
b.2-3 students
c.1-year commitment
i.2-3 hours per week, attend scoliosis meeting once a month (First Tuesdays of the month 6-7am)
d.Tasks/responsibilities
i. Maintain and manage data collection for the prospective scoliosis surgical database
ii.Assist with completion of the national registry
iii.Track patient reported outcomes postoperatively
iv.Engage in research opportunities throughout the year relating to the pediatric spine program

c.1 year commitment
i.Mondays 8-11:30am, Tuesday and Thursdays 8am-5pm (time distributed between all students)
d.Tasks/responsibilities
i.Enroll patients into prospective database in clinic
ii.Call patients who are missing data
iii.Contribute to writing abstracts/manuscripts and using data as desired

i.Tuesday clinic 8am-5pm @ MHOSH (time distributed between all students)
d.Tasks/responsibilities
i.Enroll patients in the joint registry and collect outcome measures

i.Help input data prospectively and retrospectively in trauma database in clinic and OR

How to Obtain EPIC Access
Email Layla Haidar that you need EPIC access
○Once access is requested, there are some modules that will be sent to you from the EPIC team to complete. Once those modules are completed you should be granted access
○This process can take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to obtain access
How to Obtain Care4 Access Please email Layla Haidar if there are any issues/questions.

○This is a lengthier process than obtaining EPIC access
○This can take anywhere from 3-8 weeks to obtain access
CITI Training Instructions
CITI training instructions are as follows:
○(1) Go to citiprogram.org
○(2) Click Register on the top right. Create an account through your institution and log into the website.
○(3) Click on the UTHealth at Houston Course list (or applicable institution)
○(4) Click “Add a Course” at the bottom.
■Click “Group 1: Good Clinical Practice (GCP)” and “Human Subjects Research (HSR), then click “Group 1: Biomedical Researcher and Key Personnel”
■You will be taking the “Group 1: Biomedical Personnel” and “Group 1: Good Clinical Practice (GCP)” courses.
