General Abstract Instructions

2023 Summer Research Program
Medical Students

Abstract materials must be submitted by Friday, September 15th, 5:00 pm

  • You MUST prepare your material in accordance with the instructions provided to you.
  • Meet with your Faculty Mentor to review the requirements and begin to write a draft of your abstract. Take a hard copy of the instructions with you.  Your Faculty Mentor will help you with the abstract.  Please remember that your abstract must fit in the space provided to you in the abstract form.  You cannot exceed one page.  We would prefer no graphs; however, if you require one, please ensure the chart is no larger than 1-1 1/2” H X 6” L.
  • Use only the blank abstract template provided, on which to submit your abstract information.
  • Finalize your abstract and review it carefully – especially formulas. Print a paper copy of your abstract.  Both you and your Faculty Mentor must sign the paper copy.  Ensure that the signature block is removed from the electronic copy.
  • Email a signed copy as PDF file to [email protected].
  • Email your finalized abstract as an attachment in WORD to [email protected] . This is the copy that will go into the online 2023 Abstract Book.
  • Save copies of your abstract for your personal files.
  • Remember your “Lab Research Ownership” agreement which specifies that any research is confidential and owned by McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and/or your mentor and that permission must be obtained if you wish to submit your abstract to a third party.
