We are looking for a motivated MS1 to join in our lab for SRP research at full time this summer.

Pancreatitis is an extremely painful inflammatory condition in the pancreas with both acute (AP) and chronic (CP) manifestations. Most AP cases resolve without significant sequelae, while some cases progress to CP, which is characterized by pancreatic fibrosis, inflammation, loss of exocrine and endocrine functions. CP is a major risk factor for pancreatic cancer. Up to date, the standard care for pancreatitis lacks specific pharmacological therapies and remains primarily supportive. Acquiring knowledge of cellular and molecular mechanisms contributing to pancreatitis may uncover innovative therapeutic strategies for prevention/intervention of the disease. For our research, we use in vivo mouse models, in vitro cell models, and human tissue samples to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms pertinent to the human disease. Most recently, we have developed alcohol- and aging-associated AP mouse model to study alcohol and aging effects on pancreatitis development and the underlying mechanisms using cutting-edge technologies.
