Educational Philosophy

The practice of medicine is an art that cannot be completely learned from reading a textbook. The art of medicine is more than medical knowledge and is best learned by allowing the learner to work with basic science educators as well as active clinicians dedicated to education. I teach medicine because I believe that everyone deserves quality health care and to be treated by competent physicians. I believe that the art of medicine is handed down from teacher to learner. As a medical educator, I work hard to maintain my clinical skills. Working with medical students and resident physicians enforces the idea of lifelong learning and challenges me. I teach by being a clinician-teacher, an engaged learner and active participant in the educational process. I consider myself both a teacher and a learner.  I believe the learners, both residents and students gain even more from being guided and evaluated during the learning process. I try to be available to learners to engage and challenge them as they engage and challenge me.
