McGovern Researchers Lead Long-Term COVID-19 Study

A UTHealth COVID-19 ARDS Research Team, led by Ben Bobrow, MD (Chairman Emergency Medicine Department, and the Texas Emergency Medicine Research Center’s translational research team) in conjunction with researchers from the laboratories of Xiaoyi Yuan, PhD, Marie-Francoise Doursout, PhD, and Holger K. Eltzschig, MD, PhD are conducting a long-term study on the impact of COVID-19 and the effect of the activator of hypoxia inducible factor “vadadustat,” on organ injury and overall recovery.  This two year study will follow patients to better understand COVID-19 and how to help people fully recover while minimizing deaths.  To date, the study has enrolled over 449 patients at four Memorial Hermann Hospitals and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.
