Zhongcong Xie, MD, PhD

Dr. Xie joined the department on May 1st as a Professor to support our general OR and obstetric anesthesia services and research divisions.

As a physician scientist, he will serve as the Co-Director of the Center for Aging and Cognitive Dysfunction. In this role, Dr. Xie will work to expand neurodegeneration and perioperative research efforts through mentoring, collaboration, and recruitment efforts throughout UT Health Houston and the Texas Medical Center.

Dr. Xie will also serve as the Vice President for Translational Perioperative Research and Innovation.  In this role he will work through the Office of the President to advise the President and institutional leaders on trends, policies, and opportunities in translational medicine in perioperative recovery and research development. In addition, Dr. Xie will work with stakeholders to develop a long-term strategic plan to achieve and sustain research excellence.

Dr. Xie completed his MD at Xuzhou Medical University in the People’s Republic of China and his PhD in pharmacology at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. His residency and fellowship were completed at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.  Prior to joining UTH, Dr. Xie served as a Professor in the department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
