Dr. Chen partnered with Dr. Ajai Sambasivan to spearhead the project “Musculoskeletal and Pain Ultrasound Training for Ukrainian Ultrasound Trainers.” Originally planned for Ukraine, the program was relocated to Warsaw, Poland, for safety reasons. Over two intensive days, Dr. Chen and his team delivered lectures, simulation exercises, and hands-on ultrasound training focused on musculoskeletal anatomy, pain management, and procedural guidance techniques.
This initiative, supported by UTHealth Houston’s Global Health Initiatives Program and funded by a $10,000 grant, aimed to equip Ukrainian trainers with advanced skills to expand ultrasound education in their home country. Despite logistical hurdles such as travel restrictions and visa denials, Dr. Chen’s commitment ensured the program’s success and laid the foundation for ongoing virtual training and collaboration.
Beyond his global health work, Dr. Chen is a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management specialist, dedicated to teaching and advancing care for patients with complex pain conditions. His leadership in this project reflects his passion for education and his belief in using expertise to make a meaningful impact worldwide.
