Vice Chair of Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Announcement
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kamen Vlasakov as Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He will serve as the Vice Chair of Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine, and as Assistant Dean of Perioperative Medicine for the medical school.
In his role as vice chair, Dr. Vlasakov will oversee and advance the department’s regional anesthesiology and acute pain services across all clinical sites. As Assistant Dean of Perioperative Medicine, he will lead McGovern Medical School’s efforts in perioperative medicine education and training, directing strategic initiatives and activities to ensure a high-quality curriculum and exceptional trainee experiences across anesthesiology, regional anesthesiology, and perioperative medicine.
Dr. Vlasakov received his medical degree from the Higher Medical Institute/Medical University Paraskev Stoyanov in Varna, Bulgaria. He completed his anesthesiology residency at Pennsylvania State University in Hershey, Pennsylvania, followed by fellowships in Clinical Research and Regional Anesthesia at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He joins us after serving 27 years on the faculty of Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he led the Division of Regional and Orthopedic Anesthesiology and the Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine fellowship for 20 years.
