PRIME Database

The PRIME (Peri-operative Repository of Intra-operative Medical Evaluation) database is a prospective anesthesiology study intended to link intraoperative medical decisions to long-term post operative outcomes.

The data stored in the PRIME database is designed to be used by any resident that would like to quickly conduct meaningful prospective outcomes research or quality improvement.  Key aspects of the PRIME database include:

1) Prospective information regarding management decisions. (As such, the reason that you gave an fluid or a drug is just as important as how much of the agent that you gave)

2) As PRIME is a prospective database, there is not chart review involved.  This means that if you do not state what you gave, how much, or why as listed in the database, we cannot meaningfully include those elements of your datasheet.

In order to maximize the number of patients being captured for the study, study team members normally come to the rooms at 8am and 3pm in order to provide a gentle reminder to complete the form.

Thank you for your assistance in generating meaningful research for the department (and for yourself)!
