Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology – New Team Members for May through July 2024

We welcome the below new faculty and staff members to the department.

Qiang Wang, PhD

Dr. Wang joined the department on September 11^th as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support Dr. Wei Cao’s research lab.  He received his PhD in Basic Medicine from Sichuan University in Chengdu, China.  Dr. Wang previously worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the Department of Neuroscience at UT Health in Houston, TX.

 

 

 

Cong Luo, MD, PhD

Dr. Luo joined the department on January 29^th as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support Dr. Holger Eltzschig’s research lab.  She received her MD and PhD from The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University in Changsha, China.

 

 

 

 

Sai Keerthi Annam, MPH

Sai joined the department on February 26^th as a Predoctoral Fellow ABD to support the clinical research faculty. She received her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from UT Health in Houston, TX.

 

 

 

 

Arian Rivera

Arian joined the department on February 26^th as a Research Assistant to support Dr. Aaron An’s research lab. He received his BS in Neuroscience from Texas A&M in College Station, TX.  Arian previously worked for HCA Houston Southeast as a Patient Care Technician.

 

 

 

 

Arash Dabiri, MD

Dr. Dabiri joined the department on April 1^st as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support Dr. Holger Eltzschig’s research lab.  He received his MD from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine Sichuan University in Zapopan, Mexico and completed his clinical rotations for medical school at Abrazo Hospital Networks in Phoenix, AZ.

 

 

Lidan Hou, PhD

Dr. Hou joined the department on May 1^st as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support Dr. Cynthia Ju’s research lab.  She received her PhD in Cell Biology from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China.

 

 

 

Kevin Huang, PhD

Dr. Huang joined the department on May 13^th as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support Dr. Holger Eltzschig’s research lab.  He received his MD from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Taipei City, Taiwan.  Dr. Huang previously worked as an attending anesthesiologist at Taipei Municipal Wanfang Hospital in in Taipei, Taiwan.

 

 

Tyler Zachary

Tyler joined the department on May 20^th as an Administrative Assistant to support the faculty at LBJ Hospital. She previously worked as an Executive Assistant for the Harris County Public Health Department in Houston, TX and UTMB in Pasadena, TX.

 

 

 

 

Lynda Chandler

Lynda joined the department on June 1^st as a Patient Access Representative II to support the clinical operations group.

 

 

 

 

Michael LaForce, CAA

Michael joined the department on June 3^rd as a Certified Anesthesiology Assistant to support Memorial Hermann Hospital.  He received his Master’s degree in Anesthesia from Case Western University in Houston, TX.  Michael previously worked for US Marine Corp as a Hospital Corpsman in Palms, CA.

 

 

 

 

Sicheng Wang, PhD

Dr. Wang joined the department on June 3^rd as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the clinical research faculty.  He received his PhD in Systems Science and Mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  Dr. Wang previously worked as a Research Scientist and Lead Data Analyst for the Banes-Jewish Hospital Center for Outpatient Health in St. Louis, MO.

 

Jihoon Tak, PhD

Dr. Tak joined the department on June 3^rd as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support Dr. Holger Eltzschig’s research lab.  He received his PhD in Pharmacology from Seoul National University in Seoul, South Korea.  Dr. Tak previously worked as a Research Professor for the College of Pharmacy and Integrated Research Institute from Drug Development at Dongguk University in Seoul, South Korea.

 

Phi Tran, CAA

Phi joined the department on June 10^th as a Certified Anesthesiology Assistant to support Memorial Hermann Hospital.  He received his Master’s degree in Anesthesia from Case Western Reserve University in Houston, TX.  Phi previously worked for Gene Ltd.

 

 

 

 

Denise Lopez

Denise joined the department on June 16^th as an Administrative Assistant to support the faculty at Memorial Hermann Hospital. She previously worked as a Patient Access Representative for the Department of Psychiatry at UT Health in Houston, TX.

 

 

 

 

Eric Vu, MD, MSCI

Dr. Vu joined the department on June 24^th as an Associate Professor to support our Pediatric Cardiovascular Anesthesiology group. He completed his MD at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX and his residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.  He then completed both of his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship and pediatric cardiovascular anesthesiology fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital through Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.  Dr. Vu previously worked as an Associate Professor at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.

 

 

 

Epstein Jacob, CAA

Epstein joined the department on June 24^th as a Certified Anesthesiology Assistant to support Memorial Hermann Hospital.  She received her Master’s degree in Anesthesia from Case Western Reserve University in Houston, TX.

 

 

 

 

Divya Patel, MD

Dr. Patel joined the department on July 15^th as an Assistant Professor to support our Pain Anesthesiology group. She completed her MD at New York University in New York, NY and as well as her residency and interventional pain medicine fellowship.

 

 

 

Pranathi Ari Gullapalli, MD

Dr. Gullapalli joined the department on July 15^th as an Assistant Professor to support our Anesthesiology Pain group. She completed her MD at George Washington School of Medicine in Washington, DC and her residency at the UT Health in Houston, TX.  She then completed her fellowship in pain medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY.

 

 

 

Douglas Maposa, MBBS

Dr. Maposa re-joined the department on July 16^th as an Associate Professor to support our Pediatric Cardiovascular Anesthesiology group. He completed his MD at the University of Zimbabwe Medical School in Harare, Zimbabwe.  He then completed both of his neuroanesthesia/general anesthesia fellow and pediatric/pain anesthesiology fellowships at the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada.  Dr. Maposa previously worked as a Vice Chair and Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi, in Jackson, MS.

Shailu Savarimuthu, CAA

Shailu joined the department on July 24^th as a Certified Anesthesiology Assistant to support Memorial Hermann Hospital.  She received her Master’s degree in Anesthesia from Case Western Reserve University in Houston, TX.
