Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital
Answer: Thank you for contacting the Ask a Pediatric Imaging Expert Forum. It is important for you to understand that there are two parts to every imaging examination that you or your child has; the actual image, and the interpretation of the results of the image by the doctor. Like many hospitals and outpatient centers in the Texas Medical Center-Houston, our imaging center uses state-of-the-art equipment being used by well qualified technologists. The images we take for your child’s diagnosis (which may be x-rays, special x-rays like a CT scan or nuclear medicine scan, MRI, or ultrasound) will be of very high quality. What really makes coming to the Memorial Hermann Hospital or Outpatient Imaging Center in the Medical Center worth it is the experience and specialization our UT radiologists bring to the interpretation of those images. Being a large trauma center, we have experience not matched by other hospitals, even in the medical center area, as well as the ability to collaborate with others who are also highly specialized. In fact, we are one of only two radiology groups in the Houston area that has board certified pediatric radiologists who interpret the imaging studies on children. Also, sometimes specialized images can be done here than other facilities are not able to do. That is the reason that patients are often transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital by ambulance or helicopter from smaller hospitals.
