When did you join UTHealth? What brought you here?
I originally started with UTHealth in August 1987. I applied to a job that was listed in the newspaper, working in the MSRDP Payment Posting department, processing patient payments.

Tell me about your work history here.
After 2 years in Payment Posting — at that time all payments were done manually — I was transferred to the account audit department, processing patient/commercial refunds. Then, I moved to data entry as team lead. I also helped the cashier’s area when we needed a police escort, I would go to each clinic at the UT Professional Building to pick up time-of-service payments, helping with the deposits. In 2004, MSRDP Billing was outsourced, and I continued to work with postings and the cashiers I was still in contact with in the clinics. In 2012, I started to work in the MS Travel Team and still office here.  Over this whole time, I have learned a lot about reimbursements rules, travel reimbursement, POs, which is very different since I had worked more than 20 years in medical billing.

What are you most proud of accomplishing?
I am proud of the working relationship that I have with the Medical School department staff and with the MS Travel/ Finance office.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
Interacting with all departments and being able to help with all travel and reimbursements questions.

Why have you stayed?
I love/enjoy my job, and we have an excellent group of staff and supervisors who are always ready to assist us.

When you are not at work, how do you spend your time?
I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, and I also like to travel when possible.
