Dr. Catherine Ambrose - ORS Fellow
Catherine Ambrose, PhD

The Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) has inducted Catherine Ambrose, PhD, professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, as a member of its 2022 class of fellows. Ambrose was honored at the organization’s annual meeting Feb. 8 in Tampa, Fla.

“Being selected as an ORS Fellow is important to me because it is a recognition for my contributions to both orthopaedic research in general and the Orthopaedic Research Society in particular,” Ambrose said. “I have been a member of this society since becoming a faculty member and have always found the ORS to be the cornerstone of my scientific community.”

The ORS is the leading research society supporting engineers, orthopaedic surgeons, biologists, veterinarians, and clinicians in pursuit of a world without musculoskeletal limitations. Fellows are longstanding members of the ORS who have demonstrated exemplary service and leadership, substantial achievement, expert knowledge, and significant contributions to the ORS, its governance, and the field of musculoskeletal research. Fellows are thought leaders and experts in their respective disciplines.

Fellows also serve as role models in the ORS community and in the field of musculoskeletal research and exemplify the core values of the Society by:

  • Supporting and exhibiting the ORS mission to advance musculoskeletal research worldwide
  • Inspiring excellence and innovation in research by providing expert advice, mentoring, and cultivating knowledge
  • Demonstrating professionalism and the leadership through the highest standards in scholarship, science, patient care, education, and research
  • Engaging and fostering the enhancement of the ORS community through leadership, education, scientific programming, and collaboration

Ambrose joined the faculty at the Medical School in 1993 after receiving her PhD in mechanical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1992. She serves as director of The Biomechanics Laboratory, the Bone Histomorphometry Laboratory, and the Bone Densitometry Laboratory for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Ambrose is also an adjunct associate professor in Biomedical Engineering at Rice University.
