UTHealth Houston Psychiatry Update set for April 9

UTHealth Houston Psychiatry UpdateRegistration is now open for the 2022 UTHealth Houston Psychiatry Update Conference, hosted by the Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, April 9 at the Institute of Molecular Medicine (1825 Pressler St.).

The symposium is designed for all health care professionals who work with mental health issues, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and therapists, as well as residents, fellows, medical students, and other trainees.

The 2022 conference titled “Hot Topics: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,” focuses on the recent emphasis on the rise of childhood depression and suicide rates and safe, effective treatments that are underutilized.

Speakers at the conference will share the latest information in research on various topics in child psychiatry, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum (ASD), mood and anxiety disorder, and a look at pediatric trauma research.

Keynote speakers for the event are Steven Pliszka, MD, Dielman Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Joe R and Theresa Long Lozano School of Medicine at UTHealth San Antonio; and Karen Wagner, MD, PhD, professor and Titus Harris Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UTMB, Galveston.

Presenters from the McGovern Medical School department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences include Taiwo Babatope, MD, assistant professor; Deborah Pearson, PhD, professor; Cristian Zeni, MD, PhD, associate professor; Janet Chen, MD, assistant professor; and Leslie Taylor, PhD, assistant professor. Nachum Dafny, PhD, professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy; and Leticia Gonzalez-Castro, EdD, LMSW, senior social worker at the UT Physicians Multispecialty Clinic – Jensen; will also represent the Medical School.
