2022 Geigerman Lecture

The Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences will host the 2022 Benjamin J. Geigerman Lecture series in a virtual format at 6:30 p.m. April 12.

The theme for the 2022 lecture is “Neurodiversity and the Changing World of Work.” The free event will be held via Cisco Webex, however registration is required to receive the link and password for the event. Individuals with autism, their families, clinicians, counselors, and educators are invited to join.

Many individuals with autism struggle with finding and maintaining employment, an important aspect in helping them achieve success. This year’s lecture features speakers that will look at the importance of recognizing neurodiversity, especially during COVID, in corporate hiring practices.

The lecture will feature three panelists: Kai McMillin, software patching specialist at Baker Hughes; Michele Bauman Joseph, founder of Gateway Academy; and Pamela J. Carlsward, senior cybersecurity governance analyst at Chevron. Speakers will share what each of their specific companies are doing to assist neurodiverse people through programs they have created. They will also share their own personal stories with neurodiversity.

The Geigerman Lecture Series was founded in 2015 in memory of Benjamin J. Geigerman, a young man with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder. He exhibited promise and incredible talents, graduating from college with honors.
