LaVerne Ingram, MD, recently retired assistant professor of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging, died May 9, 2022. She was 67.

A role model for compassionate care in radiology, she was a graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed postgraduate training at Howard University, where she was chief resident. She joined the McGovern Medical School faculty in 1990, as an assistant professor of radiology, with hospital appointments at LBJ General Hospital and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center.

She previously served as assistant professor of radiology at Eastern Virginia Medical School and served 19 years in the U.S. Navy, in both the Reserve and active duty, achieving the rank of commander.

She was named physician of the year in 2001 at LBJ General Hospital and received multiple Dean’s Excellence Awards, recognizing her leadership that inspired so many faculty and students. She retired from McGovern Medical School Dec. 31, 2021.

Funeral services were held May 21 in Franklin, Virginia.
