Dean’s Lecture Welcomes Wendy Chung, MD, PhD

Wendy Chung, MD, PhD, Kennedy Family Professor of Pediatrics in Medicine at Columbia University, will present the 2022 Dean’s Lecture at McGovern Medical School, Sept. 20.

The lecture will be held from 4-5 p.m. in MSB 3.001.

At Columbia, Chung directs NIH-funded research programs in human genetics of pulmonary hypertension, autism, and birth defects including congenital diaphragmatic hernia and congenital heart disease. She is a national leader in the ethical, legal, and social implications of genomics. She has authored more than 500 peer-reviewed papers and 75 reviews and chapters in medical texts.

Chung was the recipient of the Medical Achievement Award from Bonei Olam, the New York Academy of Medicine Medal for Distinguished Contributions in Biomedical Science, the Rare Impact Award from the National Organization of Rare Disorders, and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Physicians.

Chung received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and economics from Cornell University and her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, and her doctor of philosophy in genetics from the Rockefeller University in New York City.

Established in 1983, the Dean’s Lecture promotes and encourages professional development and sparks collaborative interest. Sponsored by the Research Committee, each year eminent scientists across various scientific disciplines are invited to present their work.
