LCME grants full accreditation
The Liaison Committee on Medical Education has granted McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston continued full accreditation of the medical education program.
The LCME is the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to the MD degree in U.S. and Canadian medical schools and is sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Medical Association.
“Thank you to all of our faculty, staff, students, and leadership who worked so hard to achieve this success,” said John Hancock, MB, MA, BChir, PhD, ScD, executive dean. “I am grateful to all of you who contributed to this outcome, especially LaTanya Love, MD, dean of education, and the entire Office of Educational Programs and Office of Admissions and Student Affairs. This was truly a team effort for which we all can be proud.”
Full LCME accreditation is vital to the health of the educational program. There are 12 LCME accreditation standards, each with a unique set of elements, and LCME accreditation ensures that medical education programs meet these standards. Institutional LCME accreditation is required for students to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination.
“Full accreditation by the LCME is a testament to the incredible work our school does in fulfilling our educational mission,” said LaTanya Love, MD, dean of education. “We are so proud of our school and strive to always provide the best for our students.”
The next LCME survey for McGovern Medical School will be in 2027-28.
“I can assure you we are already preparing for it to ensure our school is a place of excellence with amazing opportunities for our students,” Hancock said.
